SOME
HOLIDAY!
It
looked so tempting, reading the advert at breakfast with rain lashing the
windows. “And cheap,” said Dave, “We can’t afford more.”
The
reality was worse than Joanne had feared. Granted, the beach was golden sand,
but it was covered in litter, the beds were alive with bugs, the food was
bland, and the dining area an uninviting outdoor space.
“What
did you expect?” Dave asked. “You said you needed a holiday.”
Joanne
glared. “We’d have done better with day trips.”
Dave
left to vent his anger on the golf course.
Joanne
went off on the back of a waiter’s motorbike.
I was tempted to write about cages - I guess an uninspiring holiday might feel like a cage!
Thanks to Roger Bultot for the image and to Rochelle for hosting Friday Fictioneers.
Today is my mother's 99th birthday, which seems a vast age. I, my brother, sister and their respective spouses, took Mum out for lunch yesterday. Today I visited her in her care home, taking flowers and some cheese and crackers for her to share with her fellow residents as a lunchtime treat. The Home will provide a cake at teatime, so she's being well looked after, despite her protests that she 'doesn't want anyone to make a fuss'!!
Sounds like a great birthday for a wonderful lady on her 99th birthday 💗🎉
ReplyDeleteShe thoroughly enjoyed it all!
DeleteI'd have felt sorry for him, except he did have money for golf fees
ReplyDeleteYes, you need to be wealthy to play golf!
DeleteDear Liz,
ReplyDeleteSounds like Joanne made something of the vacation. ;) Happy birthday to your mum. How wonderful that you still have her.
Shalom,
Rochelle
I think they both enjoyed themselves!
DeleteOh yes! Good for you, Joanne. That'll show old Dave what's what. I hope he lifts his game (and not just his golf game) after this 'holiday'.
ReplyDeleteHe's going to have to!
DeleteSeems like they both got what they deserved.
ReplyDeleteIt certàinly looks that way!
DeleteThis couple needs more than a vacation to get back on track. Of course if the waiter doesn't bring her back, then that is settled. Happy Birthday to your mom!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Dawn.
Delete99! Quite an achievement. Hope you had a good day celebrating and it didn't end up like the cheap holiday in your story! :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Iain. We took her out to lunch. Also she had visits from grandchildren, a great-granddaughter, and of course ME!
DeleteI felt bad for Joanne until the last line. haha. Wow, 99! That is incredible. And, it sounds like she is being well cared for. :)
ReplyDeleteJoanna enjoyed her holiday in her own way! Yes, Mum is contented where she is, and I'm near enough to visit often.
DeleteWhat a horror - good for Joanne at the end. And sounds like your mom had a splendid birthday, such a blessing.
ReplyDeleteYes, I'm definitely on Joanna's side!
