REFLECTIONS
Looking out of this window I imagine I'm twenty again in my first
flat, swallowing tears and trying not to admit I’m homesick to Dad, who's fixing my shelves. Wish he was here now.
Yesterday’s window was open to Mediterranean air, the click of cicadas, kitchen sounds of Mum cooking pasta.
Tomorrow – who knows? Anywhere other than here.
I never imagined I'd be spending Christmas stuck in a bleak hotel room overlooking a foreign street, no-one to see but masked
strangers.
Damned Covid!

ReplyDeleteThank you, Neil.
DeleteVery nice, Lizy.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteSounds like she's in a very unsatisfying reality. Wishing her the best of luck in shaking her energy-draining perceptions.
ReplyDeleteShe isn't in a good place right now.
DeleteDear Liz,
ReplyDeleteToo real to some. Well done.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Thanks Rochelle.
DeleteI'm sure very believable to too many!
ReplyDeleteYes, it was. Thanks for visiting.
DeleteAww...homesick and locked down. You have certainly made us sympathize.
ReplyDeleteI know a few for whom it was reality.
DeleteFirst, a most well-written perspective on what became a reality for many during Covid.
ReplyDeleteSecond, I have tried several times to fix my inability to manage my comments on your site. Just wanted you to know, this is granonine, aka Linda, and I read your posts every week but have to publish under "anonymous."
Thank you. Ànd I'm having problems being anon too!
DeleteBeautifully described contrast. Well done, Liz.
ReplyDeleteThank you
DeleteHopefully by next Christmas things will have changed for her and she'll make up for this one in style!
ReplyDeleteIt would be good if that happens!
DeleteThe emotions, the homesickness, daring to be away from home and then having to live with the consequences--all is so well described. Been there, done that, can relate. Great story.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Gah.
DeleteWell said. And now you can add flu and RSV. It is quite sickening. :-)
ReplyDeleteRSV? Whatever, there's always something!
