ECLIPSE
“Fetch
another virgin now!” the Chief screamed, “The Sun is dying!”
The medicine
man cowered. “But Chief – we’ve sacrificed all the virgins.”
“Get Daxo’s neice.”
“The gods
will be insulted – she’s too ugly.”
“That’s why
I’m sure nobody’s screwed her.”
The fire
that burned Daxo’s neice had been his fault - she was still a virgin because no
man saw past the scars.
“Hide, Petl – they will sacrifice you,” he urged.
“Hide, Petl – they will sacrifice you,” he urged.
“They won’t
if I’m not a virgin, Tio.”
“Who?” Daxo
gasped.
“You, Tio –
quickly!”
Despite
himself, Daxo succumbed, and the medicine man arrived just as Daxo saved Petl - and the sun - the only way he could.

This week's story is condensed from another I wrote last year, with apologies for my lack of fresh inspiration. We have just been offered a Trust cottage and will be moving within a month - so much to do, so little time, but we're thrilled.
Meanwhile, a quick plug for my latest book HELTER-SKELTER - just the job for a holiday read so be sure to get your copy, paperback or ebook, before you pack your suitcase. Link to the Amazon page at the top of my blog.
Savage and powerful
ReplyDeleteThanks for commenting, Neil.
DeleteI like this, but what an awful proposition, thank God we know enough science to keep us sane!
ReplyDeleteNot an easy choice for either of them.
DeleteSuperstitions kill so many innocent people.
ReplyDeleteSun is a star and will change into another form one day.
Certainly can't be appeased in any such way...

Sun worship was widespread, so an eclipse must have been terrifying
DeleteWell, that was disturbing on a lot of levels...
ReplyDeleteI should have included a warning, sorry.
DeleteOh my goodness - that was a tough read!
ReplyDeleteSometimes my imagination takes me to odd places.
DeleteThis was way dark! :(
ReplyDeleteYes, I know.
DeleteSorry, Stuart.
ReplyDeleteDear Liz,
ReplyDeletePoor Petl. A no win situation.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Se was a quick thinker - we have to give her that!
DeleteBrilliant quick thinking by Petl. What a way to convert a threat into an opportunity!
ReplyDeleteAn opportunity? I wonder if she saw it like that.
DeleteYikes. No more virgins in the whole village because they're all dead. That's something to think about.
ReplyDeleteThere'll definitely be a shortage of available brides - perhaps Petl will find a husband after all?
Deleteit's rather unfair when guys aren't sacrificed. if they're virgins, they should be given the opportunity, too.
ReplyDeleteQuite right, but 'twas ever thus!
DeleteWhy is it always young female virgins? I think it's time we throw a couple of young, handsome male virgins...
ReplyDeleteI liked this!
Thanks Dale!
DeleteA brutal truth.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately so.
DeleteWow..that went by so fast!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the move.
Thank you Dawn.
DeleteDesperate times calling for desperate measures indeed.
ReplyDeleteWorth it if it saved her life - she'd been through enough already.
DeleteHow come it was always female virgins who got sacrificed?
