I wrote imy story at Mel's after she'd cut my hair and was putting blonde highlights in my daughter's. Therefore I present this week's effort with their approval.

A PERFECT MATCH
Bernie
had put up a good fight, spending several of his own millions in search of a
donor, but now he was weary of the struggle.
Standing in the corner with folded arms was Bernie’s son, waiting
to inherit his fortune; beside Bernie sat his latest wife, young and healthy
Charlene.
Bernie gasped, and right on cue Charlene sobbed, “I love you,
Bernie – go into The Light.” Bernie’s bodyguard put an apparently comforting
hand on her neck.
The next day Charlene’s heart was beating in Bernie’s chest. When he’d married her she hadn’t known what a perfect match
they were.

Oh... that was so intensely chilling.. I guess that the son was almost as sad as poor Charlene.. But I guess a good body-guard is what it takes.
ReplyDeleteI am sure the bodyguard was well-rewarded.
DeleteThe son might be feeling robbed. But not as much as Charlene. She never realized she'd be the one going into The Light, I guess.

She'd have run a mile if she had realised!
DeleteDear Liz,
ReplyDeleteThere's something ever so satisfying in this turnabout. Not sure it's fair play, but it's entertaining to see the little gold digger get what she deserves. Light indeed. I wonder what Bernie has in store for his un-bereft son.
Well done.
Shalom,
Rochelle
The son is lucky he wasn't a perfect match!
DeleteI once heard a bloke call his wife a spare part. Now I know what he meant.
ReplyDeleteI hope she thumped him, Mick!
DeleteConniving and excellent.
ReplyDeleteThanks Susan - Bernie isn't very nice, I know.
DeleteSo his search wasn't fruitless after all. Loved the ending - most unexpected.
ReplyDeleteThanks Margirene - what a cynical reason for choosing a wife, eh!
DeleteThat really took me by surprise. Excellent. One of your best.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ros - the surprise endings seem the most poplular.
DeleteTruly a heartless little gold-digger. She was in good company with Bernie and his bodyguard. Nice one. Well not nice... but you know what I mean.
ReplyDeleteDoes gold-digging warrent death? A moot point, but hopefully the bofyguard made it a quick one!
DeleteTerrific story! Great twist at the end, reminds me of a sequence from the movie "Magnolia." Deserves to get many comments!
ReplyDeleteNot Steel Magnolias? Thanks Perry, but if nobosy clicks on my pic, no comments!
DeleteHe must really have loved her to keep that as a last resort!
ReplyDeleteOr hehad only jfound her recently?
DeleteOhho, that was a great and unexpected twist. Has me chuckle with horror! Great story.
ReplyDeleteGlad it amused you, Ga H - this isn't the frst time you've commented, so thanks for that .
DeleteIt's nice to have spare parts available, especially ones that are not old and worn out. This takes the term "matchmaking" to a whole new level. :)
ReplyDeleteThinking of taking up a new career, Russell?
DeleteOh, that was sneaky! I didn't see that ending coming - and neither did Charlene!
ReplyDeleteI seem to have caught everyone by surprise this week!
DeleteYikes! You certainly did catch us by surprise - excellent twist!
ReplyDeleteThanks Susan.
