FICTION IN 100 WORDS --- POWER CUT

The car skidded to a halt mere inches from the garage and they negotiated the icy path to their front door. When Tony pushed it open a lump of snow dropped down the back of Georgina’s collar. Then they discovered the electricity had failed again.
“Good thing I charged the laptop at work,” said Georgina, sliding in a cd while Tony lit candles and phoned for a curry.
“I loathe this weather,” he said, “Let’s go abroad.”
“I’ll book somewhere online,” Georgina replied instantly, then she looked at the screen and laughed aloud. “I don’t suppose you fancy going skiing?”

  9. Dear Liz,

I hope she was kidding about skiing. Sounds like they could go do that in their back yard. Although I'm wondering how she can access the internet in a power outage. On the other hand I can with my iPhone. Guess I answered my own question.
In reading some of the comments above...hmmm a lot of September babies after cold winters.
    Nicely done.

  15. Dear Liz, good story and I don't blame her, I'd want to go somewhere warm! This happened to us years ago, someone wanted to go skiing to Colorado and we lived in Wisconsin, so I said "Yea, fun in the snow - sound's great!" But, we did have fun, that's the first time I learned how to really ski - and that's 'cause I got put in the 'remedial' skiing class in the afternoon. Sven was a great ski coach - fun! Thanks for the memory back! Nan :)

  16. Hi Nan - I've never been skiing, though my first husband did before we met, and when it snowed in our village in UK he got his old skis from the loft and the kids slid down our hill on them. Another good memory :)
