CHAINS - a 90 word story

CHAINS

I was twelve when the trader threw my dead mother overboard and kept me for himself.

He sold the beautiful babies I bore him, then took a younger girl to his bed and sold me to a rich businessman.

I cooked and cleaned for them, nursed their children, ate only their scraps. At night they locked me in the outhouse – on the back of that door I scratched every day of my years of slavery.

Until I was rescued I didn’t even know how to use a mobile phone.

DEAF JED - a story in 100 words

DEAF JED

For twelve years Deaf Jed cleared his ten-mile stretch of track. He cut back invading undergrowth in spring and summer, carted away sacks of leaves in autumn, swept snow in winter.

Tired of the daily trek from town, he built himself a shack with timber that fell from the wagons, and lived there happily with his dog.

Scruff could hear the trains that Jed couldn’t and kept him safe - until that day in forty-three when he smelled a bitch in heat.

Trains no longer run on that track, but people say Scruff still patrols his stretch, whining for Jed.

CHOICES - a 100-word story

CHOICES

“Marry me, Hanna,” Yakob begged daily, “And we will make many beautiful babies.”
Yakob had dark, expressive eyes, but he was only a fisherman, whose hut crouched on the beach with its roof weighted by rocks. Aaron was ugly, but he would inherit his family’s bar.
“Build me a house first,” Hanna said, “And I’ll think about it.”
Then a storm spread Yakob’s hut all along the beach, and Hanna searched frantically through the debris until she found him.

Now their daughters take tourists on fishing trips and their sons run a beach bar where Yakob’s hut once stood.

FRIDAY FICTION - ONLY WORN ONCE

Friday Fictioneers is contributed to by writers from all round the world. We write 100-word stories prompted by a photograph posted on this site http://rochellewisofffields.wordpress.com/

This week’s stories are on here http://new.inlinkz.com/luwpview.php?id=341075 so do check them out.

This is my first story in this challenge - comments welcome but please be gentle!

ONLY WORN ONCE

He removed the wrapping paper slowly – from the shape and weight he knew what she’d bought him. She looked so anxious that he couldn’t tell her he’d been saving for some decent Berghaus boots.
“They’re lovely – the right size, too.”
“The man said they’re a good brand – you can wear them on holiday.”

He was so uncomfortable that he missed the right path, and when they reached a wall he removed the boots to let his feet breathe.
“Just going for a leak,” he said and vaulted over, carefree and careless.

She sold the boots on Ebay – ‘Only worn once’.
