THE DARE
It was the latest craze, dreamed up when
winter came early and ruined the final beach party. Instead of sand-buggy
races, the local bloods challenged each other to dare-devil stunts in the multi-storey
car-park.
Everyone said Den was mad to take the dare,
but despite Trudi’s pleading he wouldn’t back out – losing face was a fate
worse than death.
“I’m the spin-turn champion,” he boasted as
he gunned the engine and sped towards the edge, but he hadn’t reckoned on the
sudden rain.
Bits of his car spread over an entire block.
They found Den’s hand still clutching the handbrake..

Another late entry - we moved into our new flat last week and it's been hectic!
The stupidity of youth :-(
ReplyDeleteDear Liz,
ReplyDeleteBetter late than never as they say. I would have hated to have missed this story. Well done with a message.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Thanks Rochelle
DeleteSadly this is all to believable.
ReplyDeleteAin't it just!
DeleteWell done. Miscalculations generally lead to a lot of trouble. Great last line.
ReplyDeleteYikes, what a macabre final line. Since bits of the car were spread over an entire block, I interpreted it to mean that his disembodied hand was found still holding the handbrake... which is possibly not what you intended!
ReplyDeleteIt was exactly what I meant - well done for spotting that!
DeleteI'm glad I went back to see if there were any late entries! Gripping!
ReplyDeleteCheers Dale
DeleteA nightmare that could all so easily be true, Liz. Another great 100 word story.
