IMMIGRANT - a 100 word story

IMMIGRANT
The Boss had driven away and the shelves hummed as the assembled devices watched the big screen, waiting for Mac to blink into life. Finally he spoke.
“Fellow workers – Management has betrayed us again by importing foreign goods!”
Laptops flashed angry kaleidoscopes and some of the smaller tablets peeped in distress. Mac hushed them with an impatient growl and continued.
“These inferior devices should never have been allowed to enter the country. They are sure to carry viruses which will contaminate our network.”
He indicated the desk where a small mouse trembled. “And to add insult to injury, they’re coloured!”

Thanks again to https://rochellewisofffields.wordpress.com/ for the above photo which prompted my odd little story-with-a-moral this week.
For those who have been following my recent news, we have found a flat and will be moving into it in two weeks. All being well. DV. Fingers crossed!

  1. As one who owned a purple iMac in the mid-nineties, I feel their pain. Schools were give great deals by Apple, so all my records were on my school computer, and I could move those to my home.
I now own a PC with Windows 7, and am much happier. Poor Mac.

    1. Thanks Rochelle - you're the first person to comment on it being an allegory. I was beginning to wonder if I was too subtle!

  6. My laptop is a very boring colour - it wasn't available in purple or I'd have gone for that.

    1. Apple seems to be a different world with its own adherents - never owned one so I wouldn't know!

  8. Oh this is just perfect, sounds like a Mac might be a Farage.

  9. I have an Apple at home and PC at work. We bought the Apple because we were tired of fighting viruses, although I'm not sure they brought them with them from a foreign land. It's interesting to see the immigration issue pop-up between computers. Well done.

  10. Hehe, and then Apple invented Boot Camp, and the little mouse was welcome. Until I discovered the absolutely brilliant magic mouse, I always used a 'normal' PC mouse with my Macs because I prefer the two sides. Both platforms have become good tools, good to have a choice. Fun story.

    1. I have not come across the magic mouse yet - clearly I am more technically challenged than I thought!

  11. Oh, Lizy, this is terrific! Definitely a creative take on the prompt. I do feel so sorry for that little trembling mouse, though. I hope someone saves him.
