UNCHARTED WATERS

Dan took risks every day, diving on wrecks for sunken treasure, but the day he took the helmet round to show his sister he faced a hitherto unknown challenge.
Not that he knew that when he said blithely, “Sure – I’ll babysit.”

Dan was like a kid himself, building a camp with the furniture, but when he came face to striped tights with Polly’s rear end he recoiled in horror. Not even the sudden appearance of a giant squid had terrified him as much.

He grabbed the helmet. Valuable antique or not, it was the only way to deal with a smelly nappy.

  2. Very clever. I hadn't thought of that reason for the 'helmet'.

    1. The reason struck me straight away, which is why I was so quick off the mark with my story!

  3. We've all been there. This is the best way so far to face the nappy. Good job.

  7. This made me laugh out loud. : ) Those were the days, especially when the diaper didn't completely contain everything. I could picture this guy's face. Hilarious and well written. : )

    1. Ah Josh - you are obviously a parent! You'll remember having to wash a baby all over, plus its clothes and then yourself?

  8. I think there were times when Bill would have done this had we had a helmet. Lots of fun, Lizy. Thanks for starting my morning with a laugh.

  10. Aha ha! A diving helmet, now why did I never think of that? Fortunately I don't have to do that anymore :-) A funny take on the prompt.

  11. Hi Lizy,

Just rushed over here after um, playing a frantic game of Bingo. Or maybe not.

A nappy, eh. Or diaper as those in North America would say. I could use a helmet like that whenever Penny the Jack Russell dog and modest internet superstar lets out some of her legendary flatulence. Yeah, I know, blame it on the dog.

    1. Blame it on the dog? My Pa always did, after having lifted his cheek off the chair , smiling wickedly, and letting off a beauty.

  12. Cute story. I've changed plenty of them and could have used a helmet. But I've never heard the word "nappy!"

    1. It's an English word - probably short for 'napkin' - you must be American? Where do you get the word 'diaper' from?
