PATRONAGE - 100 words
Sylvia sipped her glass of sangria, trying to conceal how
devastated she felt.
Mario hadn’t even looked back as he strode off wearing the
Rolex she’d bought him - such a cruel boy to call her old! Age was a state of
mind, not years.
A voice broke into her thoughts. “You buy, Señora? I paint just for
you.”
Sylvia stared at the painting – surely she didn’t look that
cross?
She was about to snap a refusal when she looked up at the artist and her
pulse quickened.
“What a clever boy you are! Let me buy you a drink.”

She surely looks like a cougar. Good story.
ReplyDeleteIs that what they call a predatory woman in your part of the world?
DeleteOld patterns of behavior die hard !
ReplyDeleteOne down - many more to go!
DeleteLove the quick recovery, nice window into the character.
ReplyDeleteYou can't waste time on regrets at that age!
DeleteYep, she's devastated all right! (and will be again)
ReplyDeleteAh - but maybe this is The One?
DeleteA cougar with tremendous powers of recovery... love it.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sandra - it's the secret ingredient in sangria that does it!
DeleteNice one. These ultra short stories often look like very good seeds - are you going to let some of them grow?
ReplyDeleteMaybe one or two, Robert - and what a lovely choice of words!
DeleteLove a good cougar!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by Annalisa!
DeleteI have added a new word to my vocabulary this week. I didn't know that use for 'cougar' before!
ReplyDeleteYes,there are more fish in the sea ,so to speak and yes age is just a number especially if it is willing to pay for the drinks and the rest ;-)A clever piece,this:-)
ReplyDeleteI'm all in favour of women taking the initiative!
DeleteWay to move on Sylvia. No sense crying in your sangria! Well done.
ReplyDeletegood for her indeed! Thanks Dawn.
DeleteShe's done it again. There's a woman living live to the full. Viva Sylvia. (Mario, you fool.)
ReplyDeleteYour comment made my night, Patrick! Nice to find a man on Sylvia's side.
DeleteI love Sylvia, but not all cougars have to buy. That boy is for a time though.
ReplyDeleteHe certainly is - experience counts!
DeleteGood story and well written. Out with the old and in with the new, but be careful.
ReplyDeleteWho should be careful - her or him?
DeleteDear Liz,
ReplyDeleteThere's a cougar who snaps back in a hurry. Good one.
Shalom,
Rochelle
No time to waste, Ruth!
DeleteI suspect the budding artist is a clever boy, indeed--he saw Mario's Rolex and decided Sylvia, and her bucks, looked like a good thing.
ReplyDeleteOh how cynical you are, VB!
DeleteMore money than sense! Love it! I also love this 100 word story idea. When I have a bit more time (hopefully in a few months!) I might well join you all.
ReplyDeletePlease do, Rosalind - it's fun and not as difficult as I imagined.
DeleteNext Rolex boy soon to be leaving her... hmm
ReplyDeletePerhaps this boy will be less of a creep?
DeleteAnd so it began again. She must have a lot of money to keep buying her young lovers a Rolex. Good writing and I hope she finds happiness - perhaps in a Timex? Thanks, Nan
ReplyDeleteThere's a thought - perhaps if she spent less money she'd find true love?
DeleteWell, I did it again - I lost the comment I had made. It wasn't anything spectacular. I really love your story. Maybe if she bought the new one a Timex instead of the Rolex, they would stay. "You Can't Buy Me Love." Thanks, Nan

ReplyDeleteLizzy, I don't have any more DNA to leave you for a comment. I like your story but this comment box doesn't like me. Nan
ReplyDeleteNan - thank you for persevering! Your comment won't appear on my blog instantly because it has to wait for me to read it and post it. Last year I had some weird spam comments so now I regulate them. Sorry it's confusing, but as you can see, I ended up with three from you! :)
