ALBIE

This is the first of 26 posts this month, each one starting with a letter of the alphabet. There will be many exhausted bloggers at the end of April blaming Arlee Bird who started it all three years ago. – see his blog http://tossingitout.blogspot.com/

ALBERT is a popular name in the early 20th century, which is the time-setting for my novel Helter-Skelter
ALBIE, my main character, is only twelve when his mother turfs him out to fend for himself in the seaside town in North Kent where he was born.
As I blog through the Alphabet this month, I shall also be working on what I hope will be the final draft of Albie’s story, and I plan to give you more snippets of information from the novel as we go along. I hope you stay with me, and if you're a new visitor to my blog, I am this delighted to meet you.

  1. I've been hearing some great old stories about 12 year olds lately, and it always make me think how so many 12 year olds these days don't even know how to pack their own lunch boxes. I look forward to learning more about Albies adventures

  3. It's a great name. I love the way that names conjure up periods n time. Albert and Bert are old fashioned but Albie or Al is right up to date. I love names.

  4. Thank you all for the encouragement - I wasn't sure if this was the right thing to do. I shall have to be careful not to give the plot away, nor to quote from what I hope will be a published book!

  6. Looking forward to each letter. I worked with an Albert as an apprentice - he insisted we call him Bill. He didn't like Albert or 'Bert.
Mind you I do know a Petanque player called Bert and he looks like a Bert.

In Exeter our nearby County Town there is the Royal Albert Museum - fine Victorian Architecture.
